I have kids, lots of them, and that means when eating out
there are temptations on every plate! Kids love to eat chicken fingers
and hamburgers and that means that these alluring high calorie foods are
sitting right there on the plates to my right and my left! So I have come
up with a few defense mechanisms for these very moments:
Drink up. No, I’m not telling you to down a
cocktail on a family night out (although you might feel like you want to!) I’m
reminding you to drink lots of water in between meals. You will begin to
fill up your stomach and your brain will have some time to differentiate thirst
from hunger.
Control the quantity. Ask your waiter how many
chicken fingers come in an order - if two children want the same dish, see if
it’s feasible to split the portion. It will save you money, and won’t
leave leftovers for you to nibble on!
Order wisely. Finally, if you know that you
can’t resist sharing some of those fries with your tot… go ahead and make a
wise decision on what’s being placed in front of you. Maybe opt for an
interesting salad for that particular meal and save the indulgent pasta or
steak dinner for another night when you won’t have the extra temptations
staring you in the face!
